Beloved Collective,
I have some bittersweet news I’m excited to share with you. Our Black and Queer-led and centered organization is ever growing and ever evolving. As we deepen our commitment to Black, queer, and radical feminism, it’s time BIC entered its next chapter.
As of October 28th, I will be stepping down from my role as Executive Director and our Deputy Director Ashley Blount will be taking over as Interim ED.
It has been my great honor to lead this organization for the past six years and I am immensely thankful to have been able to work alongside the countless freedom fighters leading the way for Black liberation in Connecticut and beyond.
As I enter my next chapter, I am grateful to be able to leave the future of the organization in the capable and committed hands of our team and board of directors. Many of you already know Ashley and her loving dedication to ensuring healing, transformation, restoration, safety and joy for all Black folks. BIC has benefitted from Ashley’s brilliance and commitment for nearly three years and is extremely lucky to have her stepping into this interim role.
I look forward to seeing the great things that I know she will accomplish as we navigate this transition. In the meantime, our board will engage in a search process to permanently fill this role. Our organization remains committed to a future where Black folks of all identities are truly free and we seek to ensure that our leadership will always reflect that commitment.
I am grateful for my time at BIC and all I have learned through this experience. As we transition, one thing will continue to remain steadfast at BIC: our commitment to Black Love, Black Freedom, and Black Joy.
In immense gratitude,
Camelle Scott
